DEL 240: An Installable Qube XL

There are music lovers who, under no circumstances, want to see their speakers, but exclusively to hear them. They are not interested in the design, even if it is, for example, a perfectly shaped WHD Qube XL bookshelf speaker from 2019 with a noble walnut casing. Therefore, WHD set itself the task of giving these music lovers the opportunity to enjoy the high-quality Qube XL - at least in terms of its very special sound.

A "neutral and dynamic" sound, as described by sound engineer Stephan Weber from Studio22, who said it reminded him "more of a studio monitor, where absolutely faithful reproduction is paramount, than of a conventional streaming speaker." So, what was to be done? The solution was quickly found: WHD developed the DEL 240, a built-in speaker for ceilings or walls with the familiar premium sound: very linear, high-resolution, homogeneous, and wide-dispersing.

The Sound: Pure Sound Enjoyment

"It was important to us that the sound, even with multiple DEL 240s, was uniformly good everywhere," says Stefan Huber, CEO of WHD. "Therefore, we made sure that the sound changes slowly and gently over the dispersion angle, not abruptly. With a sufficient number of speakers used, the changes are thus barely noticeable." Thanks to the 6" long-throw chassis and a large high-frequency dome with heat sink, as well as the precisely dimensioned and custom-shaped crossover, the sound leaves nothing to be desired. The powerful 50W output produces higher volumes without distortion, which is why the DEL 240 is very well suited for use in large and reverberant rooms, among other things. For special installation situations and different volumes, WHD has also developed stepless DSP settings.

By the way: An optimal sound result is achieved in combination with a WHD amplifier including the "Adaptive Sound Plus" algorithm, for example, the AMP 250 DSP, the Bluetooth/WLAN receiver WR 250 DSP or the matrix amplifier with DSP functionality AMP 4200 and AMP 1200.

Installation: Perfect Performance with an Installation Enclosure

The DEL 240 was primarily developed for installation in enclosures, where it can optimally unfold its full potential. In conjunction with B-SYSTEM backboxes for concrete, walls, and drywall, a perfect interplay of sound, design, and professional installation is created: The enclosure decouples the speaker from the ceiling and wall, thereby damping the sound radiated from the rear.

The completely perforated cover protrudes only a few millimeters from the ceiling, making it very discreet. Of course, it can be painted by WHD in different RAL/NCS colors. The acoustically optimized, extra sound-permeable and opaque fleece behind the grille also completes the impression of a homogeneous surface. Should the installation depth for an enclosure still not be sufficient, the DEL 240 can also be installed directly in the ceiling or wall. However, in this case, a tight installation is absolutely essential to avoid losing any potential in the bass range.
